Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - Multimedia Exhibition

A late 19th century personality like you've never seen it before: the post-impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is told through immersive experiences.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a famous Post Impressionist painter, illustrator and lithographer. One of the most significant characters of the late nineteenth century. Toulouse-Lautrec is known for his representations of Parisian bohemian life: cabaret scenes, theaters and ballrooms. The artist was interested in depicting real life scenes, people he met during the nights in the city, and also friends. Toulouse-Lautrec did not see the border between refined and commercial art, in his life he created works of different genres: 30 posters, illustrated theater programs, book covers, menus, invitations and sheet music.

The collection includes some of the best-known images of his prints and drawings, a rare lithographic stone, books with his illustrations and a vintage photo of the artist sleeping, taken by his friend Alfred Natanson.

In 2018 the collection expanded significantly with the addition of more than 50 objects from the estate of Aristide Bruant. Among the interesting items available for display in secure cases are two glass negatives of Bruant in his characteristic poses, photographs of Bruant in his estate with friends, accounting logs listings his revenues and expenses, personal notes referring to posters purchased from Lautrec, as well as invitation cards with reproductions of posters originally designed by the artist. In addition, copies of his two books illustrated by T. Steilen and 9 letters of Lautrec to his mother and grandmother touching such interesting topics as requesting money to pay for his rent.

The exhibition path involves visitors through multimedia experiences, retracing the life of the great Toulouse-Lautrec, the history of his works, bringing the viewer closer to his eclectic mind.
